Federal Appeals Court Upholds Biden's Vaccine Mandate

  A three-judge panel from the Sixth Circuit Court voted 2-1 to reinstate the Biden administration's vaccination policy for private businesses with more than 100 employees.  This vote  dissolves the stay on the mandate put in place by the Fifth Circuit Court. The deadline to conform to the mandate is January 4, 2022, but the Department of Labor said  in a statement  they "will not issue citations for non-compliance with any requirements of the Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS) before January 10, and will not issue any citations for noncompliance with the standard's testing requirements before February 9," so long as the employer is "exercising reasonable, good faith efforts" to comply with the standard.

Sandman Bedding Locating Manufacturing Operations in Lee County

  JACKSON (Courtesy: Mississippi Development Authority)  – Sandman Bedding, manufacturer of bedding and mattresses, is locating operations in Belden. The project is a $2.3 million corporate investment and will create 25 jobs.   Sandman Bedding will produce mattresses, mattress toppers and pillows for e-commerce and retail. The company is retrofitting a 70,000-square-foot facility where it will develop its direct-to-consumer mattress product under the Nest and Wild brand developed by its founders. Sandman Bedding also will design and manufacture sleep products for other brands across the United States.   The Mississippi Development Authority is providing assistance for building and infrastructure improvements. Viking Range was started in 1987 by Fred Carl, Jr. The Greenwood-based company is a commercial manufacturer that employs over 700 people. Viking also manages Lynx Grills, which moved its headquarters to the area in 2019.

East Mississippi Community College Encourages Women to Pursue Careers in Manufacturing

  East Mississippi Community College is encouraging more women to join the manufacturing industry. The U.S. Census Bureau data says 30 percent of the manufacturing workforce is comprised of women. WCBI in Columbus recently spoke with Camille Cooper, who is EMCC's Flex Factor Outreach Coordinator. In this link , Cooper said this is the perfect time to encourage women to look at manufacturing as a career opportunity.

Jones Constructing New Headquarters Facility in Midtown Hattiesburg

JACKSON, Miss. (Courtesy: Mississippi Development Authority) – Jones is constructing a new corporate headquarters facility in Hattiesburg. The company will invest $40 million in the project and will create more than 200 jobs.   Jones began over 70 years ago as Jones Lumber Company in southwest Mississippi. Today, the Jones portfolio of companies includes Big Black River, Codaray Construction, FV Recycling, Jones Logistics, Jones Lumber, Jones Power, Parade, PortaBull Fuel, PortaBull Storage, Rockport Terminals, Spot and Tax Advisors Group. These companies will be managed in the new 80,000-square-foot headquarters facility, which will be located in Midtown Hattiesburg across from the University of Southern Mississippi.   The Mississippi Development Authority is providing assistance for site development, infrastructure improvements and road improvements.
