Governor Reeves Announces RESTORE Act Awards, Commits Over $10 Million to Strengthen Gulf Coast Workforce
GULFPORT (Courtesy: Accelerate MS) – On Tuesday Governor Tate Reeves awarded over $10 Million of Gulf Coast RESTORE Act funds for a series of targeted efforts to grow the vitality of the Mississippi Gulf Coast’s workforce. The awards include $2.2 Million for Accelerate Mississippi, the state’s lead office for workforce strategy and deployment, which will be used to build out a workforce ecosystem and support innovative programs in high priority sectors.
The list of workforce development projects awarded by Governor Reeves is below:
- Commercial Proving Grounds for Space to Sea floor Environmental Monitoring – $1.65M
- Development of airborne and waterborne unmanned systems to test and calibrate new systems from private, educational, governmental, and military systems; will allow for training new students about unmanned systems and provide them real-world field experience in this cutting edge technology
- Hancock County Tech Park at Stennis Airport – $2.2M
- Construction of Phase 1 of Hancock County Technology Center meant to compliment Pearl River Community College’s Aerospace and Aviation Academy.
- Accelerate Mississippi Public/Private Workforce Training Partnership – $2.2M
- A project to build out a robust ecosystem through Accelerate Mississippi and support innovative projects to grow a vibrant, thriving workforce along the coast.
- Gulf Coast Center for Security and Emerging Technology(CSET) – $5.5M
- A project for Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to focus on developing an Information Technology(IT) workforce for economic expansion, innovation and societal growth.
