2021 MMA Environmental and Safety Conference

FLOWOOD - The MMA PAC Golf Tournament was held Wednesday and it was the first day of activities for the 2021 Environmental and Safety Conference.

The tournament was held at the recently-renovated Refuge Golf Course. 27 teams competed, and the winning team was from Waring Oil. The players on the winning team were Charles Waring, Pierson Waring, Howard Waring, and Richard Waring.

Thursday was the first day of meetings and presentations. The Keynote Speaker was John Blevins, who is the Acting Administrator for Region 4 of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The next session was a Sustainability Panel. The presenters were Melissa Pringle from Allen Engineering, Ashley Kimes from International Paper, Kristi Mitchum from Chevron, and Jennifer Koski from Chemours.

The following session was titled Environmental Justice, and was given by Annie McIlwain from PPM Consultants,

The afternoon featured breakout sessions with speakers tailored for the Environmental track or the Safety track.

Courtney Bohannan from OSHA gave an OSHA agency update, which highlighted updates to policies as well as site incidents over the course of the last year.

The next Safety breakout session was presented by Jason Maloney from Terracon. He discussed "Industrial Hygiene and Asbestos Exposure".

Following a break, Mike Taylor from Greenberg Taurig, LLP held a session titled "Managing an OSHA Inspection: What Companies Need to Know".

The final Safety breakout session was titled "Environmental Action Plans", and was presented by Anthony Wenzel from Environmental Compliance and Safety.

The first Environmental breakout session featured an MDEQ Agency Update led by MDEQ Director Chris Wells.

The next Environmental breakout session was a PFAS Panel featuring Trudy Fisher from Butler Snow, Chris Frey from the EPA's Office of Research and Development, and Billy Moody from the Mississippi Department of Health.

After a break, Sumesh Arora from MDA and Aaron Hill from Entergy led a discussion titled "Alternative Energy - Solar".

The final Environmental session was titled "Odor and Odor Modeling", and was presented by Aniket Pujari from Trinity Consultants

After the breakout sessions were completed, MDEQ team members met with conference attendees for "MDEQ Speed Dating", which allowed attendees to network with various representatives from the state's environmental agency.

Friday was the final day of our Environmental & Safety Conference. Our first speaker today was Garrett McInnis from Accelerate Mississippi. He discussed the mission of this new office and their plan for addressing workforce issues in Mississippi.

Our next speaker was Brandon Bass from PPM Consultants. He discussed Fenceline Monitoring.

Our final speaker of the conference was Donna Hodges from MDEQ, who covered Ethics Training.
