MMA President and CEO John McKay Testifies Before Tax Study Committee at State Capitol

JACKSON – MMA President & CEO John McKay testified before a Tax Study Committee Thursday at the Mississippi State Capitol to share concerns membership has about the elimination of a state income tax.

The joint committee listened to witnesses Wednesday and Thursday as it prepares to introduces legislation that would eliminate the state income tax during next year’s legislative session.

“When I go and speak to my members, especially about tax policy, three things tend to bubble up pretty quickly – simplicity, fairness, and predictability,” said McKay. “Predictability is a big one. If you’re running an analysis on your product and the sales figures and everything that goes into the manufacturing, you’re looking at least five years out. So anything that would add a shock to those numbers, we tend to get very nervous around that.”
